Welcoming Babies Ceremony

"A new baby is like the beginning of all things—wonder, hope, a dream of possibilities." —Eda LeShan

Your Baby Is Here!

And, of course, you want to celebrate this special addition to your family. The birth of a baby is one of the most exciting events that can happen in a family and in a community, and for much of history people all over the world have found ways to mark this momentous life event.

A Welcoming Babies Ceremony is a way to celebrate your new baby when you are not connected to a particular religion. It is the perfect way to introduce your loved ones and friends to the newest member of your family.

Whether this newborn joins your family through birth or adoption, or you want to celebrate your baby's first birthday, a Welcoming Babies Ceremony offers a meaningful opportunity to welcome your child into your world, demonstrating your union as a family together.

It is an opportunity to announce your child’s name (and its significance, if you want) while surrounded by loved ones. You can involve your family and friends — truly a very special time for Grandparents. Having no legal components, a baby welcoming ceremony allows you the flexibility and creativity to make it whatever you want it to be.

During the ceremony you can:

  • state your love and commitment to your child

  • make promises showing your child your love, support, and guidance

  • acknowledge the role of family and friends; and declare your hopes for your child's future.

You can also include prayers, readings, music, rituals (cultural, religious, or not), like candle lighting, tree planting, and/or hand or foot printing, all of which are encouraged to create a truly unique custom ceremony. As with any other celebrant-officiated ceremony, this ceremony will be unique to you, your child and your family.
